Hong Kong Playboy

Fu Sheng, Shih Hsien, Chan Pak-cheung, Cherrie chung

wang Jing

This witty romantic comedy features the wacky attempts of three bachelors trying to get girls without buying rings. The Hong Kong Playgirls have other results in mind. The fast-paced complications and gambits are made bittersweet by the performance of renowned kung-fu hero, Alexander Fu Sheng, who proved to be an utterly charming comedic star. Sadly he was soon killed in a tragic car accident, essentially making him the 'James Dean of Hong Kong'.
01:50am

The Fighting Fool

Meng Yuan-wen, Chin Huang, Pan Ping-chang, Kuan Feng

Yuan Hao-chuen

It's Meng Yuan-wen (star of The Master Strikes) versus Kuan Feng in this wild and wacky wushu saga of a priceless pole with a spectacular secret. A master martial artist's silly disciple struggles to save it from an evil white slaver, the slaver's duplicitous wife, and even his own bone-headed, but greedy, companion. Hsu Hsia choreographs the abundant action, as he had for both Five Superfighters and Drunken Master. The result is both sublime (for its kung-fu) and engagingly ridiculous.

In Pale Passion, Chin Ping-hsing's only directed film, the gorgeous Chiang Li-ping plays a scorned wife Ah Hsia in an unsettling tale about cheating, adultery and blatant abuse, which develops into a deadly love triangle. Unknown to him, karma returns in a much more damaging way...

The Daredevils

Lo Meng, Chiang Sheng, Kuo Chue

Chang Cheh

Whenever director Chang Cheh teamed up with Five Venoms, film plots were probably decided by flipping a coin - which of the fab five will play the good or bad guys, who lives or dies and which ones will do the fight. The Daredevils was just another example of Shaw Brothers’ sure fire formula to success: Venoms + Chang Cheh = maniacal frenzy x infinity. Of note, the only venom to make it in Hollywood was Kuo Chue, who choreographed the French film Brotherhood Of The Wolf and Michelle Yeoh's The Touch.
09:00am

Enchanting Shadow

Lo Tih, Chao Lei, Yang Chi-ching, Lo Chi

Li Han-hsiang

The beautiful phantom Hsiao Chien has haunted readers since her appearance in the classic haunted story collection, Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio. Many film makers have tried to adapt the tales, but none have captured the eerie, horrific beauty as well as this expressive, vivid, ethereal and haunting production. It is given extra significance by its star, the enchanting Betty Loh Ti who committed suicide later.
10:30am

Heroes of the East

Liu Chia-hui, Kurata Yasuaki, Yuka Mizuno

Liu Chia-liang

Whether it's known as HEROES OF THE EAST or SHAOLIN CHALLENGES NINJA, this ranks as a special favorite among even the most avid fans of legendary director Liu Chia-liang. Ric Meyers, author of Great Martial Arts Movies, the premiere, groundbreaking book on the genre, dubbed it the "Kramer VS. Kramer of kung-fu films" -- only instead of drama, there's action galore as a Chinese groom and Japanese bride create a loving "kung-fu family feud". Watch, in appreciative awe, as one Nipponese expert after other tests the skills of Gordon Liu Chia-hui in one maginificent bout after another -- with swords, spears, pikes, karate, and even Sai Seui. The result is a dazzling delight featuring the great "Shoji" Kurata (Fist Of Legend).

Huang Tsung-shun is "Fierce Tiger," Hung Liu is "Drunk Tiger," Hsu Erh-niu is "Lame Tiger," award-winning actor Ku Feng is "One-eyed Tiger" and respected director/actor Wu Ma is "Sick Tiger" in a tangle of tussles and thrills.

The Battle Wizard

Danny Lee , Tanny , Lin Chen-chi

Pao Hsueh-li

Pao Hsueh-li, the trusted co-director for several of Chang Cheh’s most memorable productions (including THE WATER MARGIN), here creates one of his own. It features a brother who loves books and a sister who loves swords taking on men-haters, women-haters, and even monsters. The yellow-robed warrior, the Red Python, a sinuous snake-charmer, and a silk-masked beauty (who must kill or wed the first man to see her face) are just some of the fascinating characters these siblings must face before they bring peace to their battle-addled family. The versatile actor Danny Lee, future star of John Woo’s THE KILLER, stars as the brother, while the striking Tanny Tien Ni, is the sister in this familial fight fest. Respected kung-fu choreographers Tang Chia and Huang Pei-chi controlled the swordplay and even the feared "moonlight blow" in this special, cliché-smashing production.
