Wang Yu

Jimmy Wang Yu had become a star in 1965's TEMPLE OF THE RED LOTUS. He became a superstar in 1967's ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN and 1968's GOLDEN SWALLOW. But this was his first fully realized personal kung-fu vision. Jimmy Wang Yu wrote, directed and starred in this classic favorite as the Chinese kung-fu superman, years before Bruce Lee would become famous for the same themes. He plays the famous Lei Ming, a noble young martial arts student who doesn't know the meaning of giving up. He faces a treacherous, blood-thirsty Japanese karate expert, played, of all people, by Lo Lieh (who was to become The Shaws' first international star in THE KING BOXER just months later). Featuring unforgettable training sequences and many fights, this box office smash would lead to a career unparalleled in its eccentricity and excitement.

Cheng Kang

Cheng Kang had just made the internationally popular cult classic, FLYING GUILLOTION 2, when he plunged into this social drama of police corruption. Liu Yung, co-star of every finished Bruce Lee film, plays a young man at the wrong place at the wrong time. Simply because he displeased a police inspector, he’s thrown into jail, where the warden is almost more dangerous than the inmates. But even when he’s released, the police persecute him until he has no choice but to become a real criminal. Only a kind and beautiful probation officer, played by Fanny, is on his side, but she's not enough. Watch for such action favorites as Ai Fei (The Kung-fu Instructor) and Chen Kuan-tai (Man Of Iron) in this hard-hitting drama, based on an actual investigation that linked second offenses to both the cops and crooks.

The Master Of Kung Fu

Chen Ping, Ku Feng, Wang Hsieh

Ho Meng-hua

Huang Fei-hung is the greatest character in martial arts movie history, with more than a hundred films featuring the Confucian healer and kung-fu master. Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Gordon Liu, and many others have played him in many a gloriously filmed epic. But versatile director Ho Meng-hua and the Shaw Studio wondered what it would be like to cast one of their finest actors in the challenging role, then film it hyper-realistically. The result is this unique experimental take on the character and his stories, as the multiple award-winning Ku Feng plays an all-too-human Huang Fei-hung in a battle against a corrupt gangster's plan to frame him for robbery and murder. Despite the unusual approach, there's plenty of action as Huang and his students, including the beauteous Chen Ping, fight for honor, harmony, and health.
