This top ten box office hit reunites the star duo from COME DRINK WITH ME in another classic tale of action and intrigue. Cheng Pei-pei (a quarter-century before gaining Hollywood fame as the villainess of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) radiates grace and beauty while wielding the deadly "shadow whip." The weapon is almost as major a character as Cheng, implicated as it is in multiple murders, a major heist, and an enigmatic mystery that sets in motion a pursuit by both good and evil knights. Cheng finds herself in the eye of the storm, and whether single-handedly fighting sixteen bandits or avenging her father's brutal end, she demonstrates why she was Hong Kong cinema's number one swordswoman - - and no slouch when it came to the whip!

Arguably, the greatest kung-fu film director of all time is Liu Chia-liang. Unarguably the greatest kung-fu film character of all time is Huang Fei-hung. So what do you think would happen when you put these two titanic talents together? You get one of the finest "pure" kung-fu films ever made, with nary a character getting killed, but the thrills coming a mile a minute as two pugilism schools tests each other for a full hundred minutes. Following the director’s only other Huang Fei-hung film, CHALLENGE OF THE MASTERS, Lau returns his dynamic adoptive brother, Gordon Liu Chia-hui, to the leading role, then gives the king of screen villains, Wang Lung-wei, one of his few anti-heroic roles... just in time for a stunning climax unparalleled in its adeptness and invention.

It's Meng Yuan-wen (star of The Master Strikes) versus Kuan Feng in this wild and wacky wushu saga of a priceless pole with a spectacular secret. A master martial artist's silly disciple struggles to save it from an evil white slaver, the slaver's duplicitous wife, and even his own bone-headed, but greedy, companion. Hsu Hsia choreographs the abundant action, as he had for both Five Superfighters and Drunken Master. The result is both sublime (for its kung-fu) and engagingly ridiculous.

Jimmy Wang Yu heads the stellar cast from the golden era of Shaw Brothers under the brilliant directing of auteur Chang Cheh, and here underlies their next collaboration on the classic One-Armed Swordsman. The story centers on a swordsman on the run (Wang), with his beloved trailing to find him. The intensive action scenes are beautifully choreographed; setting an example for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the like, 34 years later.

After making such successful thrillers as THE CRIMINALS 2 - HOMICIDES, such well-received action films as BIG BROTHER CHENG, and such popular comedies as MR. FUNNY - BONE, director Kuei Chih-hung put his first "hex" on the audience. This serie, frightening, supernatural mystery thriller was so effective, it led to HEX VERSUS WITCHCRAFT and HEX AFTER HEX. But this was the original, starring the lovely Tanny Tien Ni in a challenging role of a wronged, bed-ridden wife who is at the mercy of her evil husband... and so much more. What starts as an Asian variation of the classic Fench suspense film DIABOLIQUE becomes an exercise in fervid and frightening Hong Kong horror as one ghost after another appears to wreak havoc, insanity, and death.

Esteemed director Ho Meng-hua attained cult status among kung-fu film fans in the West with his wild and wacky martial arts hit THE FLYING GUILLOTINE. His unique directing approach focused more on the devastating nature of the horrific weapon than the kung-fu fights. One of Shaw Brothers' biggest kung-fu stars at the time, Chen Kuan-tai plays the leader of the ‘Flying Guillotine Squad’ a group of hand picked killers, commissioned by the Ching Emperor Yung Cheng, that use a deadly, beheading weapon to carry out the emperor's assassination assignments. It's actually based on a true story. Interestingly, the weapon used in the film was a complete fabrication because in real life, no one ever survived to tell what the actual weapon really looked like.
